00s and 10s for First (and Second) Time Drivers

If you’re buying your first car—or thinking about upgrading your first for something with more punch—don’t settle for bland.

You want something reliable, sure. Easy to insure? Definitely.

But it should also feel like you. It should make you smile every time you turn the key.

That’s why cars from the early 2000s to around 2015—are the sweet spot for today’s younger drivers (if you don’t want to go classic and retro that is). They’re affordable, insurable, and just retro enough to feel cool.

What are these cars?

They are basically in-betweeners:

  • Not quite “old timers,” but no longer just used cars

  • Designed before everything became compleatly digital and dull

  • Character, analogue charm, and a little bit of nostalgia

And the best bit? Many of them are still cheap to run, low on insurance, and easy to work on.

What Makes These Cars Perfect for New Drivers?

  • Low insurance groups (especially base models)

  • Simple tech = less to break, easier to understand

  • Parts are still easy to find

  • Looks cool without screaming “boy racer”

  • Some are already going up in value

  • The 100HP model is a future cult car

6. Ford Fiesta Mk6/Mk7 (2002–2015)
